The Monty Hunte Foundation

Empowering Communities. Protecting Oceans. Advancing Climate Justice

OUR VISION

Climate change and ocean degradation are not distant threats — they are daily realities for small island nations like Barbados. The Monty Hunte Foundation was established to turn global commitments into local action by advancing the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, particularly Goal 13: Climate Action and Goal 14: Life Below Water.

We believe that protecting our environment is inseparable from protecting our people. Rising sea levels, coastal erosion, and declining marine ecosystems threaten livelihoods, food security, and human rights. The Monty Hunte Foundation works at the intersection of climate justice, human rights, and sustainable development, ensuring that the most affected — fishers, coastal residents, women, youth, and persons with disabilities — are empowered to shape and lead the response.

Guided by the Paris Agreement, the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), and the Convention on Biological Diversity, the Foundation recognizes that the right to a clean, healthy, and sustainable environment is fundamental to the realization of all other rights. Our work integrates environmental protection with human dignity, social inclusion, and long-term resilience.
